Biographie:
Together the authors are eminently qualified to write this book. Mark Smaalders has been sailing for 25 years and has spent the last 10 years living and cruising in the tropics. He is a yacht designer by profession, specializing in classic wooden sailboats. He has published numerous articles on boat design, building, and repair in the yachting press (see attached publications list). He holds an M.A. degree in geography. Also an experienced sailor, Kim des Rochers was employed by the University of Hawaii as a marine ethnogeographer, working with island governments in Micronesia on marine environmental issues. She has published numerous articles on environmental and cultural issues in the Pacific in popular and scientific publications. They live aboard a 35-foot wooden sailboat in Australia, in which they recently completed a voyage through Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. HOMETOWN: Green Cove Springs, Florida
