Excerpt from Select Plays, Vol. 3: Julius Caesar The point, however, is of no very great importance, for if Shakespeare, as is not improbable, referred to his own play when he makes Polonius say (hamlet iii. Z. 108, 'i did enact Julius Cesar: I was killed in the Capitol; Brutus killed me,' this carries us back at least to 1602. But Mr. Halliwell (phillipps) has quoted a passage from Weever's Mirror of Martyrs, which seems to contain a direct reference to Shake speare's work, and would thus place it before 1601, when Weever's poem was published.
