Présentation Rikki Wants A Pet de Hikind, Libby Format Broché
- Livre Littérature jeunesse
Résumé :
Rikki Wants a Pet is a warm, multicultural story for ages 4 to 13 about change, promises, and how love sometimes means finding a new way forward. When Rikki moves to a new neighborhood, everything feels different. She misses her cousin, feels unsure about her new home, and hopes for a puppy on her birthday. But when the lease says no pets, her parents take her to ButterflyLand, where she receives a host plant with live caterpillars. As Rikki cares for her new pets, she discovers the magic of metamorphosis, the butterfly life cycle, and how caring for living creatures can bring unexpected joy. This interactive Jewish-themed book includes a lot of emotion, parenting skills, counting ten real butterfly varieties, the names of host plants, educational science content about metamorphosis, and a community birthday party that brings neighbors and classmates together. With age-appropriate extend-the-story questions, the book is perfect for read-alouds, classrooms, homeschooling, and nature units. Look for the companion title: Rikki Wants A Pet Activity Coloring Book....
Biographie:
Libby Hikind is a children's author, educator, curriculum writer, and founder of GrantWatch.com. For over 29 years in the New York City public school system, she taught Balanced Literacy, business careers, entrepreneurship, computers, and social studies. She also developed entrepreneurship, literacy, social studies, and anti-bullying curricula, always focusing on practical learning, critical thinking, and emotional growth. Libby writes as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with her multigenerational family in mind. Her books encourage children ages 4 to 13 to explore responsibility, empathy, teamwork, and values-based decision-making through imaginative stories grounded in real-world themes. Many of the background photographs in her books are taken by Libby herself, woven together with whimsical illustrations to create visually rich and engaging experiences for young readers. Libby's work reflects her lifelong mission: to educate, inspire, and give back. Whether through storytelling, curriculum design, or community-building through grants, she continues to empower others with the tools to learn, grow, and thrive....
