    • Résumé :
The Southern Appalachian Mountains are full of history, secrets, and unexplainable things. The story of Sister Wolf is one of them... Mary and Michael, father and daughter, sail from Ireland to the American Colonies to live in the changing world of western Virginia. As Appalachian pioneers, they live in the Mohan brothers' camp at the mouth of Mohans Run. That is, until they are captured by Shawnee warriors. Chief Red Hawk welcomes them as family once Michael proves himself a warrior by running the gauntlet. Mary learns the way of the Shawnee. Although they endure many difficulties in their new home, Mary develops special abilities that allow her to thrive. She sees into the future and communicates with animals, forming a deep bond with the wolf who saved her life. An accomplished healer and a warrior, Mary finds acceptance in both the native and pioneer communities.

      Biographie:
Mary Leslie Betts (nee McLain) was born in Fairmont West Virginia and lived in Mannington West Virginia off and on during her childhood. A lover of history since grade school, Mary heard many of the tales related in Sister Wolf, such as Hermit Eeds, the Indian cave on Mohans Run, Simon Kenton living in the area, and the capture of many residents by Native Americans. Her fourth great-grandfather, Joseph Studebaker, was taken captive by the Delaware, along with a younger brother and sister. Their parents were killed. Young Joseph lived with his Delaware father for ten years. As an adult, Mary met a couple, Terry Red Hawk Harris and his wife, Nancy White Feather Harris, both who had Native ancestry. Terry organized a group called The American M?tis Aboriginal Association, for those with Native ancestry, but not enough to be recognized by federal tribes. Mary was adopted as Nancy's sister and her husband, Marty, by Terry as his brother. Mary studied and became a Spiritual Leader and eventually the Head of the National Council of Elders.
