The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society statistics show every three minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer such as leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, or myelodysplasia. Unfortunately, my family was no exception when my son was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Our experience inspired me to write Victors Over Leukemia to relate my son's and family's struggle with, and ultimate triumph over, a disease that not long ago was a certain death sentence. Whatever the situation that has piqued your interest, I am glad you chose this book. I wanted this book to present our ordeal from the perspectives of all the main characters. Whether or not you have had prior experience with a blood cancer, I want you to become part of our story and determine which perspective speaks to you. As you read Victors Over Leukemia, I hope it fortifies your hope in triumph as the main characters articulate their thoughts, fears, faith, and emotions as they travel the tough road of a leukemia diagnosis. Each person's experience is unique, but there are some constant variables. Based on this premise, I believe the reader will identify with the book. Biographie:
Estrellita Howard Redmon, MD MBA FACP, was born in Tallahassee, Florida. At the age of twelve, she knew she wanted to be a doctor, and at sixteen, enrolled at Florida A&M University. She earned a bachelor's in pharmacy, followed by a doctor of medicine from the University of Florida. She completed her internal medicine residency in Roanoke, Virginia (now Virginia Tech Carilion), and later returned to the University of Florida for a master's in business administration. Dr. Redmon is board-certified in internal medicine and health care quality management as well as a fellow in the American College of Physicians. Her career includes over twenty-five years as a practicing physician and over twenty years as a physician executive. Currently, she is the Chief Clinical Officer for Ascension Florida & Gulf Coast. The health system operates ten hospitals and more than two hundred other sites of care. Dr. Redmon is responsible for clinical performance across the continuum of care. She is the author of Victors Over Leukemia, a book which shares her story through the eyes of her son Victor, his family, and his friends. Dr. E enjoys traveling with her husband, Gregory, spending time with her children and grandchildren, writing, reading, and playing the piano.
