Biographie:
Everth Sotelo was born in January 1992. At an early age, his family settled in Los Angeles, California. He began writing short stories in high school, but at CSU Los Angeles and Dominguez Hills, he studied iconic authors such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, John Steinbeck, and Ernest Hemingway, which inspired his writing career. His short stories have been published in literary magazines and received acclaimed recognition for his deceptively simple style of writing and vivid imagery. His first book, an anthology of erotic poetry, marked the beginning of his career as a writer. But his young adult novel, The Bad Blessings, placed him among the steps of contemporary authors such as Neil Gaiman and Colson Whitehead. He currently teaches English Literature in South Gate, CA....
Sommaire:
Rose now has two daunting choices: break the curse or suffer eternally. However, Rose struggles with a disbelief in the occult. She also battles with gender and coming-out issues which aggravate the conflict between her overprotective father, her zealous mother, and a conservative town that oppresses women, diversity, and any modern outlook on life. Fantastically conceived through irony, wit, and vivid imagery, this story blends the magical world of each character's mind with the immutable realities of a modern family. It also explores a queer Latinx coming out journey and her growth to adulthood amidst supernatural forces. This novella gives full rein to Sotelo's creative style that exposes the emotional undercurrents all humans suffer and shines a new light on the theme of existence versus society....
