Présentation King Henry Iv, Part One And Two de William Shakespeare Format Relié
- Livre Fantastique
Résumé :
King Henry IV, Part One and Two brings together Shakespeare's two great history plays of rebellion, kingship, Prince Hal, and Sir John Falstaff. In Part One, King Henry IV faces rebellion from powerful nobles while his son, Prince Hal, wastes his youth in taverns with Falstaff and the disreputable company of Eastcheap. As political conflict moves toward the Battle of Shrewsbury, Hal must begin the painful passage from riotous prince to public heir. In Part Two, the kingdom remains unsettled, the king's health declines, and Hal moves closer to the crown he cannot avoid. Falstaff, still comic, vivid, and self-deluding, expects that his old companion's accession will bring favour and reward, but Shakespeare turns the exuberance of the tavern world toward one of his most severe reckonings with power, maturity, and public duty. Read together, the two plays form one of the central movements of the Henriad: a double drama of rebellion and succession, comedy and history, appetite and authority, private friendship and royal necessity. For readers of Shakespeare, English Renaissance drama, the history plays, political theatre, and the literary making of Prince Hal and Falstaff, King Henry IV, Part One and Two is indispensable: expansive, comic, searching, and central to Shakespeare's treatment of honour, legitimacy, inheritance, and the human cost of becoming king....
Biographie:
William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the central figure of English literature and one of the most influential dramatists in world literature. His surviving works include tragedies, comedies, histories, romances, narrative poems, and sonnets, many of which remain central to theatre, education, literary study, and general reading. Shakespeare's plays combine dramatic structure, psychological depth, political insight, verbal brilliance, and a lasting command of human motive, making them foundational texts for readers of classic drama and English Renaissance literature. His history plays helped shape the literary memory of English monarchy, civil conflict, dynastic legitimacy, and national identity. In the two parts of King Henry IV, Shakespeare gives particular force to the tension between private appetite and public rule, using Prince Hal, Falstaff, Hotspur, rebellion, succession, and kingship to examine how political authority is formed and what it demands. His influence extends across literature, performance, criticism, film, and popular culture, and his works remain among the most frequently read, staged, adapted, and studied writings in the English language....
