The Prix Kergorlay is a Group 2 flat horse race in France which is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Deauville over a distance of 3,000 metres (about 1? miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. The event was originally called the Prix de la Soci?t? d'Encouragement. It was named after a former governing body of horse racing in France, the Soci?t? d'Encouragement pour l'Am?lioration des Races de Chevaux en France. The inaugural running took place on August 14, 1864, and it was part of the first ever race meeting to be held at Deauville. The distance was initially set at 3,000 metres (equal to the present length), and the prize money for the winning owner was 5,100 francs. The Prix de la Soci?t? d'Encouragement was not run in 1871 because of the Franco-Prussian War....
