Présentation Being Gilbert de Gail O. Dellslee Format Broché
- Livre Littérature jeunesse
Résumé :
Piper is beginning her freshman year at high school in West Virginia, feeling like she's always been on the outside looking in. She's never thought of herself as pretty or smart, and fitting in has always been a struggle. That all changes when she befriends a group of kids who wear black and embrace the unconventional. Through their friendship, Piper starts to explore new aspects of herself--her politics, her religion, and even her gender identity. But as she delves deeper into their world, Piper begins to wonder if she's truly discovering her own identity or merely adopting the one her friends expect of her. Torn between the desire to belong and the need to stay true to herself, Piper faces tough questions about friendship, identity, and what it means to be transgender. Can Piper navigate the complexities of self-discovery without losing herself in the process? And will she find the courage to be who she truly is, no matter the cost?...
Biographie:
Gail O. Dellslee is a multiracial author from California who wrote her first novel at age 10 and never stopped. Her fiction is rooted in lived experience-her own and those around her-blending real events and real people into stories that explore the complexities of identity, relationships, and the emotional undercurrents that shape us....
Sommaire:
How can you be yourself when everyone hates who you are? Piper has never fit anywhere--not at home, not at school, not even in her own body. Fourteen, awkward, and friendless, she enters high school hoping her older sister Anna might throw her a lifeline. Instead, she's told to fend for herself. So Piper makes friends with the very people Anna warned her to stay away from--a group of black-clad misfits who embrace the unconventional. They open her eyes by discussing things she never gave a second thought about--politics, religion, and even gender. With these companions, Piper finally feels like she belongs. But belonging can be complicated. As her life spirals through grief, fractured family ties, and the intoxicating pull of people who promise understanding, Piper begins to rethink all the wisdom she thought she gained. Is she really finding her true self, or drifting further from it? Piper wants to keep her friends, but at what cost? A raw, unsettling coming-of-age story about conformity, loneliness, and the courage it takes to reclaim your own voice....
