        Robert Barr (1850-1912) was a Scottish-Canadian journalist and author. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in his twenties, where he worked as a journalist for various newspapers. Barr was known for his humorous writing style and often wrote satirical stories and parodies. Barr is best known for his short stories, particularly those featuring the character Eug?ne Valmont, a French detective who solves crimes in a witty and charming manner. The Triumphs of Eug?ne Valmont is perhaps his most famous work. In addition to his fiction writing, Barr was also a prolific journalist and wrote articles for publications such as The Idler, The Speaker, and The Pall Mall Gazette. He was known for his coverage of the Boer War in South Africa and his advocacy for the rights of Canadian authors. Barr died in 1912 at the age of 62, leaving behind a legacy of witty and entertaining writing.
