Résumé :
typography today was originally published in 1980 and is still internationally acclaimed, dubbed as the modern classic of design books. Updated and re-designed, this 2015 edition introduces the selected works of 90 designers from 15 countries. It traces the course of modern typography from pioneers such as Lissitzky, Tschichold and Zwart; to Emil Ruder, Karl Gerstner and Herb Lubalin; through to Wolfgang Weingart, Wim Crouwel and Kohei Sugiura.
Biographie:
Helmut Schmid is a graphic designer from Austria. He apprenticed as type compositor in Germany, and then studied under Emil Ruder, Robert Buechler and Kurt Hauert at the AGS (basel school of design) in Switzerland.
After he had worked in the field of visual design in Sweden, Canada, Japan and Germany, he settled as an independent designer in Osaka in 1981.
He designed the brand identity of the Japanese hit drink 'pocari sweat' in 1980 and the very successful 'demisoda' drink for Korea in 1993.
