Britain is a land of paradox. Its borders are mostly physical and very obvious on the map, and yet it is impossible to say what it really is, or signifies, for it is entire of itself and yet a flowing synthesis of creatures and customs from around the World. A fragment of storm-lashed land, yet eponymously great; a ramshackle polity whose demise has frequently been forecast, but never consummated. With words and pictures James R Warren presents some characteristic themes, exemplified by little things and unfrequented places, which yet have stories of their own to tell, always engrossing and often momentous. James R Warren was born in Cumberland, England in 1952.Educated at Ware Secondary Modern School and the Aberdeen College of Commerce, Dr Warren is a graduate of Manchester, Strathclyde and Birmingham City Universities and was for twenty years a Senior Lecturer in Information Technology and Quantitative Methods.James Warren is a former Fellow of the Geological Society of London, and a past Member of The Institution of Water Engineers and Scientists, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the Association for Computing Machinery.James lives with his wife Jana at Bloxwich, England.
