This book is an account of the people and land of Korea from the travels of Henry Savage-Landor in the 1880s. It is an early account of the manners and customs of the people as accurately as possible from the perspective of a foreign traveler. His astute observations describe a people and a place that has been lost in time, valuable descriptions in words, as well as pen and brush. He was accomodated by the then Vice-Minister of Home Affairs and Adviser to the King, Mr. C.R. Greathouse, also General Le Gendre, Foreign Adviser to the Korean ruler. The culture, times and culture is vividly described here, making this work a valuable supplement to any study of Korean culture or history....
