Présentation The Vegetable Format Broché
- Livre Histoire
Résumé :
Jerry Frost is thirty-five. He is a clerk for the railroad at dollars3,000 a year. He possesses no eyebrows, but nevertheless he constantly tries to knit them. -F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Vegetable (1923) The Vegetable; or, From President to Postman (1923) is the only play F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote and when produced was regarded by many as a disaster. The title is derived from a quote Fitzgerald stated came from a current magazine as written on the title page of the work: Any man who doesn't want to get on in the world, to make a million dollars, and maybe even park his toothbrush in the White House...-he's nothing more or less than a vegetable. This foray by Fitzgerald into playwriting is a must-read for those intrigued by one of the most prolific authors of the twentieth century.
Biographie:
F. SCOTT FITZGERALD (1896-1940) was born in Minnesota to upper middle-class parents and married socialite Zelda, which heavily influenced his literary masterwork, The Great Gatsby (1925). Fitzgerald is noted for his depiction of The Jazz Age and as a short story writer, screenwriter, and great American novelist.
Sommaire:
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, was an American writer renowned for his works that epitomized the Jazz Age, a term he coined. Born on September 24, 1896, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Fitzgerald became one of the most prominent novelists of the early 20th century. He attended Princeton University, where his writing career began to take shape. His most famous work, The Great Gatsby, is often cited as one of the great American novels, capturing the disillusionment of the American Dream during the Roaring Twenties. His personal life was marked by his tumultuous marriage to Zelda Sayre, whom he married in 1920, and the couple's extravagant lifestyle served as a backdrop for many of his works. Fitzgerald's writing is deeply influenced by figures such as Edith Wharton and John Keats. Despite early success, his later years were marred by financial instability, alcohol dependence, and personal struggles. He passed away on December 21, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 44, leaving behind a legacy as one of America's most celebrated literary figures....
