      • Résumé :
The Great Depression and WWII were difficult and challenging years for so many. Mix that drama with trauma of a horribly dysfunctional family and you had the makings of utter disaster and failure. War Torn: Mending of a Family, however, tells the saga of one special family through the eyes and words of a disenfranchised member who struggled to survive the violent onslaught of an angry, contemptible, and denying father. War Torn: Mending of a Family, therefore, is both factual and historical as it follows footsteps of our main character's youth describing lifestyles and challenges living through the 1930's Depression Era and WWII years. Among many anecdotal references are discussions regarding Depression Era hardships, fostering and orphanage care, abortion issues, runaway life, truancy concerns, L-G rights insight, black-market evils, women's rights, women's wartime-efforts contributions, home-front espionage anecdotes, as well as prejudicial and racist attitudes harbored during the war. The story also serves as backdrop while our main character learns survival skills eventually becoming a rewarded, original-female welder of Rosie-the-Riveter fame. There are enough tears to go around, to-be-sure, yet there is also a plethora of historical fact, defined by curious and humorous experiences, as well as inspirational commentary and dialogue.

        Biographie:
Daniel Thomas Chapman retired from his thirty-year career in education serving at-risk youth to begin a new hobby/career of traveling and writing. Previous works such as Be Not Forgot, Messages from Vallarta and Poetic Justice suggest appreciation for his newfound, pleasing lifestyle. Although interrupting Chapman's teaching career, however, our author did take an eight-year hiatus to eventually become a Journeyman Field-Construction Boilermaker Rigger, Fitter and Welder. He too struggled while attempting to duplicate his parent's youthful experiences by searching for boomtowns throughout America seeking work as a field-construction, boomer welder.War Torn: Mending of a Family, therefore, is partly a tribute to that lifestyle. Our author admiringly reflects, I come from an extraordinary family who lived through extraordinary times.
