Die dezidiert philosophische Ausarbeitung des Toleranzgedankens hat ihren Ursprung in den konfessionellen Konflikten der (Gegen-)Reformation. Auch heute noch erscheint die Frage der Toleranz in religi?sen Kontexten besonders dringlich. Auf besondere Weise gilt dies f?r die islamische Welt. Dieser Band bietet eine Einf?hrung in die Geschichte sowie die diversen systematischen Aspekte der Toleranz mit Schwerpunkt auf dem westlichen und islamischen Kulturraum. Beginnend mit der r?mischen Antike werden die verschiedenen Perspektiven der abrahamischen Religionen Judentum, Christentum und Islam sowie die spezifisch islamischen Toleranzkonzeptionen beleuchtet. Beitr?ge zu den Toleranzdebatten in der zeitgen?ssischen politischen Philosophie und der Frage nach dem Nutzen epistemischer Toleranzbegr?ndungen runden den Band ab. The decidedly philosophical elaboration of the idea of tolerance has its origins in the confessional conflicts of the (counter)Reformation. Even today, the question of tolerance seems particularly urgent in religious contexts, particularly concerning the Islamic world. This volume offers an introduction to the history as well as the diverse systematic aspects of tolerance with a focus on the Western and Islamic cultural areas. Beginning with Roman antiquity, the various perspectives of the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, as well as the specifically Islamic conceptions of tolerance, are examined. Contributions on the debates on tolerance in contemporary political philosophy and the question of the usefulness of epistemic justifications of tolerance round off the volume.
