Lighting Design Awareness is a refreshingly new approach for the undefined trade practice of landscape lighting design. This book is the first of a three-part series dedicated to the advancement of this artform. It introduces the foundational building block of 'composition.' Never before has this profession considered this line of thinking or to this extent. It also describes the common flaws exhibited today. Additionally, it teaches designers how to use a design critique as a tool and means towards developing practical skills. Consider the following, simple questions...Are your lighting designs effective? And...Are you recognized by your peers? Each of these is telling about well you are performing today. There are many highly skilled practitioners performing this work who provide wonderful lighting applications. Of these, there are very few who can ensure a 'good' lighting design based on the principles of composition. Mark A. Carlson has been a leader and proven landscape lighting designer for over two decades. He has performed all aspects of this practice, including design, installation, consultation, project management, and maintenance. He still engages these activities with his design-contracting business, Avalon Lighting Design. In 2019, he established and launched the Experiential Landscape Lighting Initiative (ELLI), which is dedicated to the trade practitioner and profession. It's the only educational resource available specifically to the landscape lighting designer.
