Résumé : Educational media can provide children with enormous opportunities and can serve as a window to new experiences, enrich academic knowledge, enhance attitudes and motivation, and nurture social skills. This volume documents the impact of educational media in a variety of subject areas and proposes mechanisms to explain its effects. Updated from the previous Children's Learning from Education Television, author Shalom M. Fisch expands beyond television in this edition to touch on the wide variety of media that has emerged since the first editions initial publication. Although kids still spend the most time with television, interactive media across a range of platforms (e.g., games, e-books, apps) has grown, and with it research exploring the educational potential of these media. The first edition remains the first, and only, academic book to present a comprehensive synthesis of theory and empirical research regarding learning from educational television. This second edition will continue to be the best source for the disparate literature on the impact of educational children's media. To that end, the volume draws together empirical data on the impact of educational media--both academic and prosocial--on children's knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior.
