In Absolute Beginners, Inaki Ábalos explores forms of innovation in architecture and examines how and why architectural creation - at least the kind that arouses the greatest cultural interest-is strongly linked to philosophical thought, especially to the essay and the aphorism. He guides us to an understanding of why innovation-as defined in philosophy-is inextricably linked to a reflection on the past and to the emergence of new ways of appropriating old problems. While drawing on various materials from his research and teaching of the past two decades, Absolute Beginners is to be read as a single essay written for the pure pleasure of composing a new and complex work, understanding the source materials as necessary fragments, while remaining open to adjustments as well as interconnections to be found between them. Like with a piece of music, Ábalos organizes his texts into a cohesive composition, much to the delight and insight of his readers.

Biographie:
I?aki ?balos, geboren 1956, f?hrte 1984-2006 zusammen mit Juan Herreros das B?ro ?balos & Herreros in Madrid. Seit 2007 ist er Partner von ?balos+Sentkiewicz Architects in Boston, Madrid und Schanghai und lehrt als Professor an der Harvard Graduate School of Design.
