There is abundant opportunity for the imagina tion to illumine the facts gathered here, and some of the characters would serve well the writer of romance. As a Parish History it is not remarkable for the record of great sacrifice, or of conspicuous personal devotion. It is a sad story in the long periods of vacancies in the rectorate, and in the struggles of Rectors with a scanty living made possible only by teaching school. But there have always been a faithful few to whom the old Church has been clear. While there are many colonial parishes in Maryland, few are as old as this where the walls of the first church building remain.
