What images come to mind when you hear someone described as a feminist? Ladies burning bras? Women walking topless in public? Millions of women marching in protest while wearing pink pussy hats? Perhaps you might picture pioneer suffragists like Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Chapman Catt, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, or others who fought in the struggle to secure the right for women to vote. What comes to mind when you hear the word feminism? The concept tends to generate a visceral response, either in favor or against. It can be so controversial partly because there's no agreed-upon definition for feminism. Politicians, news media, and others often use the word to incite an emotional response. We rarely stop to think about what it means to be a feminist, or more importantly, what a pro-feminist approach could mean for women (and men). This book is intended to explore that opportunity and its positive potential.

Biographie:
As a lifelong learner, Dr. Plexico enjoys teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in communication, crisis management, ethics, leadership, management, organizational behavior, organizational development and change, public speaking, qualitative research, social media, and strategy. A twenty-two-year Navy career included service as a Pentagon press officer, a spokesperson for the US Pacific Fleet, and director of communication of the Center for Career Development. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management, a master's degree in communication, and a doctor of philosophy degree in organizational leadership. Alvin and Lucinda, his wife of thirty years, live near Memphis, Tennessee. Their younger daughter, Savannah, serves others as a social worker. Their older daughter, Shiloh, serves in the Air Force. Alvin enjoys reading, running, and following Texas Rangers baseball. In an attempt to diversify his physical activities, he races in triathlons, with the ultimate goal of completing an Ironman.Alvin's previous books include I Have a Dream: A Report Card 50 Years After Dr. King's Assassination and Lessons From Our Grandparents: An Oral History. Dr. Plexico enjoys connecting with other lifelong learners through his blog at www.drplexico.com.
