Letters from China . . . beginning in 1922, these letters were written by Martha; a young woman who had been raised riding horses and working cattle on a family ranch in San Diego County. A newlywed married to a Methodist pastor, this is her story of becoming a missionary and her wonderment at serving her church in the historic civilization called China. Through her writings you'll discover how this young, impressionable missionary's fascination grew as she learned the language, customs and traditions of this ancient land. Letters to her mother and family tell of the challenges she and her husband faced traveling the district to teach the word of God and guiding Chinese pastors in their work. She describes the struggles of raising two girls in a world far from her home and family in San Diego. Her letters continue as the peril of the Japanese invasion of China in the early days of World War II threatened the survival of the missionaries. This is a story of her unwavering commitment to her faith.
