Bill began his career in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter with the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department, Brentwood Maryland, in 1965. As a volunteer I filled several line and staff positions, including fire chief. In 1973 he was appointed to the District of Columbia Fire Department (DCFD), beginning a career that spanned 20 years.
