Résumé :
Excerpt from Meditations, Vol. 1: For the Use of Seminarians and Priests; Tranlsted and Adapted; The Fundamental Truths
Sanctity alone makes us what our divine vocation requires us to be - men whose thoughts are fixed only on heavenly things and who strive by all means to lead others thither. Since, as all are aware, sanctity of life is the fruit of our will, only in as far as our will is strengthened by the help of divine grace, God Himself makes abundant provision that we may never, if we so wish, be destitute of grace; and this we acquire chie?y by the practice of prayer. Truly between prayer and sanctity the connection is so close that one cannot exist without the other.
Christ Himself brings these truths home to us by His frequent exhortations, and most of all by His example. He was wont to retire into - desert places or to go up in the mountains alone; He used to spend whole nights in prayer; He frequently went into the temple; nay, even when the crowds pressed around Him, He used to pray Openly with his eyes raised to heaven.
