        Gon?alo M. Tavares was born in Luanda in 1970, and he spent his childhood in Aveiro, in the north of Portugal. He currently teaches at the Faculty of Human Kinetics at the University of Lisbon. He published his first poetry book, Book of Dance, in 2001. It was followed by a wide variety of books of various genres that surprise readers and critics for Tavares' personal style. He has been praised and awarded in Portugal and internationally. His books are translated in more than 50 countries, and Gon?alo M. Tavares is considered one of the most relevant contemporary writers in Portuguese.The Neighbourhood, one of the series in which his work is grouped, is comprised of ten books of short stories dedicated to great writers and intellectuals in History. Mister Val?ry and Logic (2002) is the first book in this collection, and it was awarded the Branquinho de Fonseca's Prize/ Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2002.His exceptional work portfolio includes Jerusalem (2004), awarded the Saramago Prize in 2005, and Learning to Pray in the Age of Technology (2010), awarded the Prize for the Best Foreign Book in France and Special Prize by the Jury of the Grand Prize for Literary Web Culture 2010. One of his latest works, Plague Diary, is a compilation of daily articles inspired by the pandemic, published between March 24 and June 21, 2020, in the Portuguese newspaper Expresso.Some of his works have been adapted into theatre, dance, and films, as well as being a source of inspiration for visual artists and various performances. Some of his texts have been integrated into various exhibitions too.In literature for children and young people, Tavares has a series of four books, Stories of Mr. Val?ry (The Friends, The Shoes, The Holiday House and The Two Sides), illustrated by Rachel Caiano, and the Little Andersen's Dictionary, illustrated by Madalena Matoso.According to Alberto Manguel, Gon?alo M.
