Judiciary, which forms the third pillar of the government machinery, apart from the Executive and Legislature, has traditionally opted for a moderate role in the day to day functioning of the State. Of late, however, this watch dog of the Constitution has made its presence felt albeit with the assistance of media. The changing stance of the judiciary as epitomized by some recent judicial pronouncements has often been termed as 'activism' on the part of the judiciary or Judicial Activism. This book provides an insight into the concept of judicial activism and its gaining popularity in India with the judges of the higher judiciary pronouncing judgments on subjects touching all aspects of national life, especially the protection of environment....

Biographie:
Dr. Harmeet Singh Sandhu received his LL.M. degree from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar- INDIA and was awarded medal for standing first in his course. He did his PhD also from the same institute. His research interests are environment protection laws and human rights.
