Résumé :
Any Broken Biscuits? tells the story of David's experience of growing up in Lanarkshire in the Fifties. As part of a large family, life was never dull for the young lad. David, his friends and family didn't have a lot, so they made their own entertainment. They created their own games, found mischief, visited relatives and attended Sunday school. Best of all was the idyllic summer holidays spent on a farm in Aberdeenshire. It was a life of innocence, laughter and joy surrounded by great characters like the 'Oul Man', 'Benachie Mam' and the ladies of the bakery who frequently heard the plaintive cry Any Broken Biscuits?. This is a book for those who remember those simpler times and the happiness it brought.
Biographie:
David Mcclure was born in Airdrie in 1951 and brought up in Coatbridge in the shadow of Gartsherrie Iron Works. Growing up as the third oldest in a family of eleven was not easy as there was usually some crisis or other going on. His Baptist upbringing stood him in good stead. A good work ethic in those days even at a young age was always well rewarded. Starting working life off as an apprentice painter and decorator David had many career changes. The hosiery industry beckoned him with the lure of more money. Machine operating in knitwear factories and spinning mills gave him a good mechanical knowledge which was to benefit him for twenty years as a production worker with a Swedish truck and bus manufacturer. Many career changes later and Living now in Ayrshire with his wife and family retirement was never an option as along with his wife he became a full time foster carer. He is already planning a follow up to this book. In between fishing and all the other family activities.
