Présentation Victory Format Broché

Résumé :
On approaching the task of writing this Note for Victory, the first thing I am conscious of is the actual nearness of the book, its nearness to me personally, to the vanished mood in which it was written, and to the mixed feelings aroused by the critical notices the book obtained when first published almost exactly a year after the beginning of the war. The writing of it was finished in 1914 long before the murder of an Austrian Archduke sounded the first note of warning for a world already full of doubts and fears.
Biographie:
Joseph Conrad was a Polish-British novelist and short story writer. He is considered as one of the best authors in the English language, despite the fact that he did not speak English effectively until his twenties. He became known as a master prose stylist who introduced a non-English sensibility into English literature. He authored novels and novellas, many of which take place at sea, about crises of human identity in what he perceived as an indifferent, incomprehensible, and amoral world. Conrad is regarded as a literary impressionist by some and an early modernist by others, while his works also incorporate elements of nineteenth-century realism. His storytelling style and anti-heroic characters, such as Lord Jim, impacted a number of authors. Writing near the peak of the British Empire, Conrad drew on his native Poland's national experiences-during nearly all of his life, parcelled out among three occupying empires-as well as his own experiences in the French and British merchant navies, to create short stories and novels that reflect aspects of a European-dominated world, including imperialism and colonialism, and that profoundly explore the human psyche. Apollo took his kid to the Austrian-controlled region of Poland in December 1867, which had enjoyed significant internal freedom and self-government for the previous two years. After seeing Lwow and numerous smaller towns, they relocated to Krakow (Poland's capital until 1596), which is also in Austrian Poland, on February 20, 1869....
Sommaire:
Joseph Conrad, born J?zef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski in 1857 in present-day Ukraine, grew up in a politically active Polish family. His father, a writer and patriot, was imprisoned for anti-Russian activism, and Conrad's early years were marked by displacement and loss. Orphaned at age eleven, he was raised by his uncle, who encouraged his passion for the sea.Conrad began his maritime career in the French merchant navy before joining the British merchant fleet, where he spent nearly 20 years at sea. His experiences as a sailor provided the foundation for much of his writing, including Heart of Darkness and Lord Jim. Although he did not learn English until his twenties, Conrad became a master of the language, creating works that explore themes of isolation, imperialism, and human nature.Conrad's fiction often reflects his personal struggles with identity, exile, and the human psyche. His unique perspective as a Polish expatriate writing in English contributed to his status as one of the most influential modernist writers of the 20th century. His works continue to be studied for their complex narrative techniques and moral ambiguity....
