It has been successfully adapted three times for the screen and once as a radio play and is credited with creating the modern soap opera. Barbara Stanwyck garnered an Oscar nomination for playing the title role.

Olive Higgins Prouty (1882-1974) was an American novelist best known for her explorations of women's emotional lives and social constraints in the early twentieth century. Her novel Stella Dallas achieved significant popularity and was adapted multiple times for stage and screen. Prouty's fiction frequently addresses themes of domestic responsibility, personal sacrifice, and the evolving role of women within American society....
