Basanta Kumari Patnaik's much acclaimed masterpiece novel about the journey of Maya from an educated, independent, stubborn, self-sufficient, sensible girl to an obedient, traditional, mature, emotional woman. This was made to a popular feature film with the same name in 1964 starring Jharana Das in the main role.
Biographie:
Eminent Odia novelist and short story writer Basanta Kumari Patnaik (15 December 1923 - 29 March 2013) was born in Bhanjanagar and spent most of her life in Cuttack. Her works include Amada Bata (1950), Chorabali (1973) and Alibha Chita (novels), Sabhyatara Saja (1950), Patala Dheu (1952) and Jivanchinha (1959) (short story collections), Chintanala (1956) and Taranga (poetry collections), Juara Bhatta (1952) and Mrugatrushna (1956) (plays). Amada Bata has been made into a memorable film. She was awarded Atibadi Puraskar, the highest award of the Odisha Sahitya Academy.
