Throughout his professional life Dr. Stone kept a careful record of all cases occurring in his own practice, or those he-saw in consultation. During the last year of his life he wrote out such of these cases as seemed to him of interest, and worthy of record, intending to pub lish them together with some contributions he had made to The New York Medical yournal. After his death the manuscript was to go into the printer's hand. This volume is now issued at the urgent request of some. Of his medical friends in the hope that its perusal may not prove entirely de void of interest to the profession at large. Had the author been permitted to supervise the issue of this volume no doubt many changes would have suggested themselves to him, as it was his intention to have given the cases a careful revision. But few alterations have been made in the manuscript, only a word here and there, or a sentence has been changed - it having been thought best to leave the cases as narrated by him. With these few remarks the yolume is submitted to the profession.
