Présentation The Cathedral Format Broché
- Livre Littérature Générale
Résumé :
A chilling, sensuous voyage into the heart of belief and doubt. The Cathedral invites you to step behind the veils of faith and desire, where symbolism becomes a map of the soul. Huysmans's late nineteenth century novel unfolds as a meditation on religion and doubt, aestheticism and spirituality, set within the fevered currents of fin de siecle Paris. With a steady, hypnotic rhythm, it blends psychological fiction with an atmosphere thick as incense, offering a bruised yet luminous portrait of decadence and devotion. The prose, steeped in the influences of Baudelaire and Mallarm?, rewards patient reading with sudden flashes of clarity and reverence for beauty amid moral ambiguity. This edition is more than a reprint...
Biographie:
Charles-Marie-Georges Huysmans (1848 - 1907 in Paris) was a French novelist who published his works as Joris-Karl Huysmans. He is most famous for the novel ? rebours (1884, published in English as Against the Grain or Against Nature). He supported himself by a 30-year career in the French civil service. Huysmans' work is considered remarkable for its idiosyncratic use of the French language, large vocabulary, descriptions, satirical wit and far-ranging erudition. First considered part of Naturalism, he became associated with the decadent movement with his publication of ? rebours. His work expressed his deep pessimism, which had led him to the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer. In later years, his novels reflected his study of Catholicism, religious conversion and becoming an oblate. He discussed the iconography of Christian architecture at length in La cath?drale (1898), set at Chartres and with its cathedral as the focus of the book....
Sommaire:
it is a restored doorway to a forgotten classic, revived for today's readers and for future generations. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions, it stands as a collector's item and a cultural treasure-suitable for classic literature students, scholars, and anyone drawn to the intricate, spine-tingling questions that haunt late nineteenth century Paris. Whether you approach as a casual reader or a serious admirer of scholarly literary analysis, The Cathedral offers rich layers of Parisian decadence, subtle spiritual inquiry, and a timeless tension between faith and experience. A true artefact of fin de siecle Paris, ready to illuminate both curiosity and devotion....
