Ursprung des menschlichen Lebens

Die Mutter - kaum ein Begriff, ein Konzept provoziert vielf?ltigere Assoziationen, Empfindungen und Rollenklischees. Mit dem internationalen Ausstellungsprojekt MUTTER! zeigt die Kunsthalle Mannheim in Kooperation mit dem Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in D?nemark, wie die ver?nderte Wahrnehmung von Mutter- schaft in der Kunst - von Alten Meistern u?ber Werke der fru?hen Avantgarde bis zur Gegenwart - gespiegelt wird. Ob die Erfindung der Antibabypille oder neue Rollenkonzepte zwischen biotechnologischen Mo?glichkeiten und queeren Familienstrukturen, die Ausstellung untersucht das Bild der
Mutter in Hinblick auf kulturelle Erwartungen und Normen. Mit Werken u. a. von Louise Bourgeois, Candice Breitz, Sophie Calle, Rineke Dijkstra, Tracey Emin, Petrit Halilaj, Peter Hujar, Alice Neel, Yoko Ono, Egon Schiele, VALIE EXPORT.

Der Katalog wirft neben der Dokumentation der Ausstellung einen Blick auf die Mutterfigur in Film und Literatur sowie auf Artefakte aus der Welt der Wissenschaft und der Popul?rkultur, um das facettenreiche Thema zu erz?hlen. Origin of Human Life

The mother-very few words and ideas provoke more divergent associations, sentiments, and stereotypical role models. Produced by Kunsthalle Mannheim in cooperation with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, the international exhibition project Mutter! (MOTHER!) illuminates how art-from the Old Masters to the works of the early avant-gardes and contemporary art-reflects changing perceptions of motherhood. Be it the invention of the birth control pill or new visions of the mother's role between the possibilities of biotechnology and queer family structures: the exhibition examines the image of the mother with a view to cultural expectations and standards. With works by Louise Bourgeois, Candice Breitz, Sophie Calle, Rineke Dijkstra, Tracey Emin, Petrit Halilaj, Peter Hujar, Alice Neel, Yoko Ono, Egon Schiele, VALIE EXPORT, and many more.

The catalogue complements documentation of the exhibition with an exploration of its multifaceted subject through the stories told by mother figures in film and literature and artifacts from the worlds of science and popular culture.
