Résumé :
Joe Sheldon used to write about Miami's criminals. Now he's working for one. After losing his column at a major newspaper, Joe's down to cheap drinks, old records, and a novel that isn't going to save him. He's not a cop. Not a detective. Just a guy who knows how to ask questions-and when to stop asking them. So when his old friend Dickie Caldwell offers him cash to find a gambler who skipped town owing serious money, Joe says yes. He shouldn't have. Because the gambler isn't the only one who's disappeared... Dickie's girlfriend is gone. There's a ransom note. And the story Joe's being told doesn't hold together. Now Joe's stuck between a man who expects results and a situation that's starting to feel a lot worse than a missing persons job. He's in over his head. And getting out isn't part of the deal....
Biographie:
Gregory has written over twenty-three books, and is the author of four mystery and crime fiction series, including the Henry Walsh Private Investigator series, the US Marshal Charlie Harlow series, the Joe Sheldon crime series, and the new Jake Horn mysteries. His standalone crime novels include Drag the Man Down, Half Cocked, Danny Womack's .38, Biscayne Boogie, and a number of published short stories. He won his first award as a writer at ten years old, after sending a story to the Providence Journal about his pet husky being shot by a local farmer. The writing most likely wasn't very good, but the fact a young boy's dog was shot (true story!) tugged at the editor's heart strings just enough. His dog, luckily, survived. But that wasn't a paid gig, so years later he ended up in advertising. He eventually became a copywriter, specializing in direct mail and writing fundraising letters to help raise money for animals and children. The first book he wrote was nonfiction, but he quickly realized he wasn't smart enough to be giving anyone advice. He finally decided making up lies for a living would be much more fun.Somehow, he became an author.Raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Gregory lives with his wife, kids, and his dog, Jake, in North Carolina....
