      • Résumé :
A compelling voyage into the early nineteenth century, where a master orator and statesman helped shape a nation. Daniel Webster opens a window onto American constitutional history through the measured, lucid lens of Henry Cabot Lodge. This historical biography traces Webster's rise amid nineteenth century politics, illuminating the intricate dance between federalism and nationalism that defined a young republic. Lodge writes with quiet reverence and modern clarity, weaving political strategy, legal argument, and intimate character study into a narrative that is at once scholarly and deeply human. For history enthusiasts, readers, and history students alike, the book offers a rigorous yet accessible academic study resource that respects the complexity of its subject without losing its narrative drive. The New England setting and the period's temperament come alive through careful context and thoughtful reflection on American political biography as a living conversation. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions, this edition is restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure - it stands as a distinguished addition to any library, appealing to both casual readers and classic-literature collectors. A sober, illuminating portrait of Daniel Webster and the broader currents that shaped American constitutional history, it invites fresh readings of an enduring American legacy: a substantial, unforgettable journey into the heart of early nineteenth century politics....

He was a member of the United States Senate from 1893 to 1924 and is best known for his foreign policy stances. His successful battle against Woodrow Wilson's pact of Versailles meant that the United States never joined the League of Nations, and his objections about that pact informed the contemporary United Nations framework. Lodge earned four degrees from Harvard University and was a well-known historian. His personal friendship with Theodore Roosevelt began in 1884 and lasted throughout their lives, even when Roosevelt left the Republican Party in 1912....
