Every year over 50,000 people will die from brain injury. Annually, one million more brain injury survivors will suffer long-term disability. Yet those closest to neurological research aimed at understanding the brain say that to date researchers have only scratched the surface. There is an urgent need for rehabilitation professionals to be much better informed about the personal consequences of brain injury. The dysfunctions associated with brain injury can be subtle, complex, and wide ranging in their effects on quality of life for both survivors and their families. Doctors attest that what Mark John Condon has learned through his brain injury experience and shared in The Silent Epidemic: What Everyone Should Know about Brain Injury is something they could never have learned in all their years of studies.
