      • Résumé :
In the early '70s, although he didn't realise it at the time, Gary was caught up in many episodes of bizarre coincidences. These incidents transformed ordinary daily events into magical encounters with his future soulmate, Pam. As a result of these coincidences, Gary and Pam, who also happened to be the kindest, most intelligent, bravest person Gary has ever met, were able to form a lifelong bond after just three short chance meetings and two weeks of travelling together. Given Pam's angelic qualities, plus the uncanny coincidences that kept piling up, the story furthers the possibility of a mysterious force 'out there' shaping our destinies. The possibility that Pam is a true angel cannot be dismissed lightly. Like true soulmates, their thoughts and actions were always in sync, which was the key to their successful, stunning adventures at home and overseas. Then tragedy struck, as lymphoma, a blood cancer. As important as it was to all concerned, the story is not about cancer and the fight to defeat it. It is a story about how one heroine uses her kindness as a potent weapon to try to make the world a better place, for current and future generations. It is hoped readers will understand this once they have read the story. Because an angel cannot save the world by herself.

        Biographie:
Gary Whatman is a trained ecologist and the author of an unpublished book written 20 years ago, entitled, Journey to the End of the World ... and Beyond. He is also author of Living with an Angel, which contains his memoirs and a biography of his deceased wife, Pam. In writing this book, Gary has demonstrated that you don't have to be rich and famous to have a story worth telling. They travelled the world as backpackers, often to unusual or remote places, like Easter and Christmas Islands. They had many adventures together. Gary has 30 years' experience in writing - mainly government reports and briefings. His style is to write about the world as he sees it. This blunt, 'no nonsense' style was appreciated by senior management because too often other advisers provided just the positive side of an issue or what they thought the managers wanted to hear. Gary thinks his endeavours to be honest in his writing comes from his science background, plus the influence of Pam, the angel. After 45 wonderful years together, Pam died suddenly and unexpectedly, in 2019. Her death forced Gary to reminisce on what an amazing person she was. He always knew that but says in recent years he had taken everything that Pam did for granted. She was the kindest person Gary had ever met, who devoted her life to helping others, especially those most in need. He decided the right thing to do was to tell the world about her. So Gary wrote his second book. Gary says that his best writing comes when he knows the subject intimately, and then the words just flow. Writing Living with an Angel was such a case. It is a story about the lives and adventures of Pam and Gary. Pam spent most of her life living with Gary. No-one knew Pam as well as he. Because of this, writing the book came so easily that he was still going strong after 150 pages of text. He stopped there but there is plenty of material left for a third book. Gary is retired now and lives in his home in Canberra, Australia. He spends a lot of time hiking the many tracks around the 'bush capital'. He has a son and daughter who often go with him on bushwalks.
