Résumé :
'From a firehose' is the book the author had fervently looked for when he started out in the consulting profession a couple of decades ago. It has taken him more years than he is willing to admit to research and complete this book. Fortunately, it provides tremendous insight into - and tangible value from - the consulting industry which has gone from strength to strength over the last century. A quick scan of the 'Table of Contents' will leave no doubt about the ROI (Return On Investment) of time, money, and effort that this book will deliver. In addition to consulting value, the book covers a wide range of hot business topics that are just not found anywhere else. The core chapters are primarily targeted towards five reader groups:- Current students who aspire to a career in the consulting industry- Consultants who are already making their way within this sector- Corporate professionals who would like to pursue consulting as a career- Management that has retained or is planning to hire a consulting company- Staff and managers that have been asked to work with consulting teamsEach of the chapters and all the other content in this book will undoubtedly benefit any business professional who desires to leverage the vast value being generated by this profession every day, in every sector, industry, function and segment all over the globe. With topics that range from consulting frameworks and mnemonics to tips and techniques for consultants and clients alike, the book leverages a unique, deliverable-focused view of problem-solving and presents a detailed, thought-provoking take on consulting's future. Whether you are a student or consultant aspiring to build a career in the fast, fierce, and flourishing world of strategy and management consulting, or a current or potential client, you will find insights and value in every page of this book.
Biographie:
Hamir Malia is the Founder & President of Best Expert InSight (BEIS), a Boston-based business intelligence and decision support Firm with a global clientele, operating at the intersection of strategy consulting and business research. He has previously consulted as an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company and a Principal at the Boston Consulting Group in their Stamford, CT and Boston, MA offices, respectively. He played an instrumental role in building BCG's technology Practice and was a founding member of McKinsey's Digital Practice, which grew from five to more than five hundred consultants in less than five years. Today, it is the largest single Practice within all of McKinsey on a global basis. He joined McKinsey as a consultant focused on strategy and operations consulting for several leading clients in the Life Sciences, Industrial, and Financial Services industries. He has also served as the Senior Vice President for Professional Services at a firm acquired by OpSec Security and as a Vice President for Lavastorm Analytics, a global leader in business analytics and intelligence. In the past, as an independent consultant, he provided strategy, innovation, due diligence, program management, and business development services to Global 2000 clients, Private Equity firms, and well established consulting companies. He typically worked solo, as an 'associated' partner with major global consultancies, or on teams of ex- McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Strategy&, and Kearney consultants. His focus has been primarily on clients based in the UK, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, South Asia, the Far East, and the US. Throughout his career, he has worked for exceptional companies like Cambridge Technology Partners, Gartner Group, and IBM. Having traveled to more than fifty countries (most were business trips), he brings a global perspective to his analysis, writing, and viewpoints. Hamir has more than two decades of consulting experience in business strategy, technology optimization, and enterprise transformation across several sectors, including Pharmaceuticals/Healthcare, Financial Services, Consumer Goods/Retail, High-Tech, Energy, and Manufacturing. He capitalized on every opportunity to expand his experience base - with clients and major consulting Firms alike - to as many sectors, industries, functions, and niches as was practically feasible. From the Swiss-banks in Zurich to the Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) of India, from the Biotechs of Boston to the Energy behemoths of the Gulf, from the Luxury Brands of France and Italy to the coal miners of Australia and South Africa, from the (Re)Insurers of Bermuda to the Syndicates of London, and from the Government of Japan to Local and State Departments, he has pro-actively and aggressively diversified his consulting focus in order to maximize his experiential footprint and knowledge of multi-sector as well as industry-specific consulting. He has had the good fortune of advising all the top-ten Pharmaceutical companies (across every segments of their value chain), eight of the top-ten Asset Managers, five of the top-ten P&C Insurers, and a large number of additional Global 2000 clients across a slew of other sectors. Over the course of his career, Hamir has had the opportunity to consult to 150+ different firms at the CxO/xVP level, on 250+ projects, across a range of functions and business areas in 30+ countries spanning six continents. Hamir holds an MBA in Finance and an M.Eng. in OR&IE from Cornell University. He has also earned an M.S. in Computer Science from Penn State. His undergraduate degree is in Digital Electronics Engineering. He was awarded an MBA/M.Eng. Scholarship at Cornell and attended Penn State on a full NASA research grant entailing the supervision of pro...
