But the man was reportedly seen in London only a couple of hours earlier... Jules Lermina's Panic in Paris (1910) combines the tradition of utopian fiction with both the scientific advances of the 19th century and the pseudoscientific trappings of Edward Bulwer-Lytton's The Coming Race (1871). It also features some intriguing anticipations of two key works by Arthur Conan Doyle, prefiguring both The Lost World (1912) and The Poison Belt (1913).
Biographie:
Jules Lermina was a French novelist, journalist, and political activist born on 27 March 1839 in Paris, France. He began his career as a journalist in 1859 and became aligned with the socialists, a position that led to several years of imprisonment. His political dedication earned him the support of Victor Hugo, who admired his commitment to social causes. Lermina published his first novels under the pseudonym William Cobb, marking the start of a diverse literary career. His works included novels, essays, and journalistic writings that reflected his views on justice, human rights, and the struggles of society. Throughout his life, he balanced his literary pursuits with political activism, using his writing as a means to advocate for change and highlight social issues. He passed away on 23 June 1915 in Paris, France, at the age of 76, leaving behind a significant contribution to both literature and political thought. He was survived by his child, Juliette Lermina-Flandre, who carried forward his name....
