USS Kidd (DD-661) was launched February 28, 1943, and served in the Pacific from August 1943 until the end of World War II, taking part in operations in the Marshall Islands, the Marianas campaign, and the Philippines. In early 1945, she joined Task Force 58 (TF 58) for the invasion of Okinawa. After service in the Korean War as part of Task Force 77 she alternated West Pacific cruises with operations on the West Coast. She was decommissioned on June 19, 1964 and entered the Atlantic Reserve Fleet. She has been docked at Baton Rouge since May 23, 1982, when she was transferred to the Louisiana Naval War Memorial Commission and is now on public view there as a museum vessel. Never modernized, USS Kidd is the only destroyer to retain its World War II appearance.
This brand-new addition to the Anatomy of the Ship series combines a brief narrative history of the USS Kidd, its design, and construction, with a series of detailed plans of the destroyer, contemporary photographs, and Stefan Draminski's superbly detailed digital color artworks.
Biographie:
Stefan Draminski was born in 1982 and is a naval researcher and illustrator. Since 2002 he has worked on numerous publications on military history subjects. Using 3D software, he creates highly detailed and historically accurate digital models of warships, aircraft, and vehicles. He is the author of Battleship Bismarck (Osprey 2018) and provided the digital artwork for Battleships Yamato and Musashi. He lives in Torun, Poland, with his wife, children and dog....

Superbly illustrated with artwork of the ship through its career, reconstructions of deck layouts, and 3D illustrations of every detail of the ship from its rigging to its boats to its anchors, this book reconstructs and dissects the Fletcher-class destroyer USS Kidd, the most original survivor of the US Navy's most famous class of World War II destroyers. Kidd fought throughout the Pacific War, in the Marshall Islands, Marianas, and Philippines campaigns. In early 1945, Kidd joined Task Force 58 for the invasion of Okinawa, and postwar served in the Korean War. Since 1982 USS Kidd has been a museum ship at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Drawing on Stefan Draminski's new research and making the best use yet of his acclaimed 3D illustration techniques, this is the most comprehensive examination of USS Kidd ever published. It includes a complete set of detailed line drawings with fully descriptive keys and full-color 3D artwork, supported by technical details, photographs, and a concise history of the ship's construction and service.
