Résumé :
The 53rd Virginia Infantry: Finding the Men in the 1860 Census, gives the story of the regiment through the Civil War. Included are details on the organization, the battles, the casualties, and the prison camps endured. The 53rd Virginia was one of five regiments in the brigade of General Lewis A. Armistead at Pickett's Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. In addition to the saga through the war, this book is a quest for details on the lives of the over 1,800 men who served, beginning with Finding the Men in the 1860 Census.
Biographie:
The initial production of Robert Lee Snow 38th Virginia Infantry: Finding the Men in the 1860 Census, was followed by a book on a sister regiment: 57th Virginia Infantry: Finding the Men in the 1860 Census. The goal has been to give the story of each regiment through the Civil War, and to find genealogical data on the men who served. The 38th Virginia was also known as the Pittsylvania Regiment, as 7 of 10 companies were recruited in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. The 57th Virginia, somewhat similar, had 4 of 10 companies recruited in Pittsylvania, Virginia. Upon completion of those books, the author produced booklets strictly on Pittsylvania County men, and covered the 18th and 21st Virginia Infantry. Other books include Pittsylvania Artilleries: Finding the Men in the 1860 Census (which covers four Pittsylvania artilleries and two closely related regiments), and Henry County Virginia Civil War Soldiers: Finding the Men in the 1860 Census.
