Présentation What's Wrong With The World de Chesterton, G. K. Format Broché
- Livre Science humaines et sociales, Lettres
Biographie:
G. K. Chesterton (1874-1936) was an English novelist, essayist, poet, journalist, critic, and Christian apologist known for his wit, paradoxes, and extraordinary range. He wrote on literature, politics, religion, philosophy, art, and social life, often using humor and apparent contradiction to challenge conventional assumptions. His best-known works include The Man Who Was Thursday, Orthodoxy, The Everlasting Man, Manalive, and the Father Brown detective stories. Chesterton's writing combines intellectual argument with imagination, comedy, and a persistent sense of wonder at the ordinary world....
Sommaire:
What is wrong with the world, Chesterton argues, is not that humanity has failed to move forward-but that it has forgotten to ask where it ought to be going. In What's Wrong with the World, G. K. Chesterton turns his wit, paradox, and formidable argumentative energy toward the political and social questions of the early twentieth century. He challenges reformers who attempt to improve society without first defining what a healthy society should look like, insisting that meaningful reform must begin with a clear vision of what is good. Chesterton examines education, government, capitalism, socialism, feminism, family life, property, childhood, and the growing power of institutions over ordinary people. Though many of his conclusions remain controversial, his central concern is consistent: modern systems too often sacrifice human dignity, domestic freedom, and the richness of everyday life in pursuit of efficiency and abstract progress. At the heart of the book is Chesterton's defense of the home and family as safeguards against impersonal political and economic power. He argues for wider ownership of property, greater independence for ordinary households, and reforms that strengthen rather than replace the natural bonds of community. First published in 1910, What's Wrong with the World remains a provocative work of social criticism. Chesterton's arguments are by turns insightful, infuriating, comic, and unexpectedly relevant, inviting readers to question fashionable assumptions and reconsider what genuine progress should mean....
