As One Generation Tells Another is an exploration into the value of teaching the works of James Joyce in a secondary classroom. As a high school English teacher, Dylan Emerick-Brown knows the bureaucracies and complexities that surround 21st century curriculum design and assessment. He discovered that instead of teaching a variety of English standards by relying on a dizzying array of writers and texts, Joyce was a one-stop shop for what the students needed. Despite Joyce's reputation for being esoteric and challenging, he wrote for an audience not unlike the students sitting in a high school classroom. With assessment scores up and students highly engaged and entertained, Emerick-Brown created the website TeachingJoyce.com to share all of his work with other teachers for free. This book is the context. It addresses why teachers should give Joyce - and their students - a chance. As One Generation Tells Anther is the perfect supplement to work in tandem with TeachingJoyce.com to best create a network of teachers interested in incorporating Joyce into their curriculum.
