Résumé :
A visual guide to the very best in contemporary typographic design, this book features examples and usages of modern typography from around the world. Covering a wide variety of applications, from design for print - magazines, books, brochures. posters - to signage and identity systems and screen-based typography, New Typographic Design gives an insight into the current trends and directions of modern typography and provides a rich source of inspiration for design students and established designers alike. An introductory essay by David Jury examines changing attitudes to innovation in typography through the last two centuries. The book is then divided into four sections that illustrate key areas of typography today : Type as Form (commercially available typefaces being used to create clean typographic forms), Type as Image (designs noted for their illustrative and hand-drawn aesthetic). Type as Experiment (designs that push the boundaries of typographic recognition and legibility) and Type in Motion (type that functions in a three-dimensional or screen-based environment).
Biographie:
Roger Fawcett-Tang is a founding partner of Struktur Design. His previous books include New Book Design (with Caroline Roberts), Experimental Formats (with Chris Foges and John O'Reilly), Mapping (with William Owen), Experimental Formats 2 and Print and Production Finishes for Brochures and Catalogs. David Jury is the editor of TypoGraphic and head of Graphic Media at Colchester School of Art and Design. He has won Awards of Excellence for book design from the New York Type Club, ICOGRADA and the ISTD.
