Malaria remains one of the most overwhelming communicable diseases threatening the human race, disproportionately affecting populations of tropical and subtropical regions in the world. It is caused by five different species of Plasmodium parasite transmitted by female Anopheles mosquito. In this book, the authors present topical research in the aetiology, pathogenesis and treatments of malaria. Some of the topics discussed include progress with RTS,S; global malaria eradication; malaria in the archaic Greek world; the role of human matrix metalloproteinases in malaria pathogenesis; artemisinin combination therapy for the treatment of childhood malaria; climate variations and malaria in China and natural acquired anti-plasmodium falciparum IgG antibody responses.
