I am glad to publish this book since it is an original work done in an medical college which is a referral centre situated in a rural area in andhra pradesh in india where lot of patients with heart disease get admitted for expert management.heart disease in pregnancy poses lot of problems including maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality,when identified and treated early these complications are reduced with good results.The present study included all pregnant women with confirmed cardiac disease admitted over a period of two years,There were a total of 50 cases.35 (70%) were acquired heart diseases and 15 (30%) were congenital heart diseases.Majority of the patients belonged to the age group 21-30 years (62%) and were from poor socio economic class (94%).Primigravidas constituted the bulk of the study population (64%).Rheumatic mitral stenosis with regurgitation dominated the acquired heart disease group (22%).Mitral valve prolapse (10%) solely represented the group of acquired non-rheumatic structural heart disease.ASD topped the congenital heart lesions (12%).Only a small proportion of patients remained in class III or IV during hospital stay (14%)....
