This book is a collection of 700 Gathas compiled by the great King Satavahana Hala from 2nd Century BC. Gathas are poetic snippets (similar to Shlokas in Sanskrit). Translated from Prakrit (a peer language to Sanskrit prevalent in India 2000 years ago) into Odia and beautifully interpreted, this is a virtual treasure trove of timeless and pithy life lessons. The readers may take this literary voyage into the past and rejoice at the amazing similarity of Prakrit to modern Odia. While languages evolve, the depth, intensity, characteristics and endless capacity of the Gathas to hold the imagination of mankind is impressive. Each snippet in this compilation is unique and complete by itself. This is enough to hold the reader's attention.

Biographie:
Dr. Bairagicharan Jena (born 1939) is an educationist, researcher and retired professor. He has taught in various colleges of Odisha including Sambalpur University from where he retired in 1999. His research in Theory of Beauty/Aesthetics in Odia Poetry is still considered as one of the pioneer research works in Odia Literature.
