      • Résumé :
This book features two parallel stories. One is the enduring romance and love of the featured character and his wife. The other, the guiding story, deals with the service of Art Bushing in the U.S. Army during and after World War II. Following his graduation from college, Bushing entered the Army and, after basic training, received language training. He was deployed to Europe as an infantryman, as part of Patton's 3rd Army, fighting all the way to Austria. This is an enjoyable book, easy to read. The story pulls the reader along, anxious to find out what will happen next, both in Europe and at home in Tennessee. It is an interesting and informative look at one man's journey through the final years of World War II and after.Michael F. Dilley, Major, U.S. Army (Retired), Military Historian and Author

        Biographie:
Dr. Arthur Story Bushing (March 24, 1922 - October 29, 2008) was born in Oroville, Washington, but spent much of his childhood in Jamestown, Tennessee. His father, Arthur Samuel Bushing, was personal secretary to WWI hero Sgt. Alvin C. York and in 1939 Art Junior graduated from the Alvin C. York Institute. Art began his teaching career in 1943 as instructor of physics at Maryville College, where he had received his undergraduate degree and met his wife, Dorothy Dotty Bushing. During WWII, he served in the United States Army in the European Theatre and earned the Bronze Star, the Battle of the Rhineland, and the Battle of Central Europe medals. In 1947, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant professor of English, while completing his master's degree from the University of Tennessee. Over the fifty years of teaching at Maryville College, countless students were taught from his Manual of Outlining and Research, and he enjoyed touring and lecturing on the life of Sgt. Alvin C. York. Dr. Bushing retired from teaching in 1996, but he and Dotty continued to be active in the life of the College, which included serving as historians. Dr. Bushing was also an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder and Sunday School teacher for many years. In 1991 Art was recognized by the College with an honorary doctor of letters degree and in 2000 he was presented the Maryville College Medallion, the highest honor bestowed by the College. Art and Dotty enjoyed 64 years of marriage and were the proud parents of four children: Stuart, Barbera, Kathryn, and Jennifer.
