This is an inspiring, behind-the-scenes memoir about the First Female Rock Duo in Britain, Emily Muff, that blazed a trail during the Golden Age of Rock. Co-founded in London by two gutsy young American women in 1968, author Kathy Bushnell provides a first-hand account of what it was like to navigate the choppy waters of the male-dominated world of rock. She and her bandmate, Janet, wrote original songs and sang powerful harmonies. They also played Telecaster and Rickenbacker electric guitars, keyboards, flute, and blues harmonicas. Their female rock duo toured Great Britain extensively, opening concerts for the bands Family and Quintessence. It also appeared on the same bill as Yes, the Move, Steppenwolf, Van der Graaf Generator, the Nice, and America. Emily Muff received offers from several record companies, and also appeared on BBC Wales-TV and BBC London-TV. It wasn't always an easy road, but Kathy and Janet's creativity and determination helped Emily Muff achieve recognition as a bona fide chick rock duo in Britain. EM & MOO: Legacy of a '60s Female Rock Duo will appeal to a wide range of readers, including teens and young women/men who aspire to enter the rock 'n' roll arena. It will also be of interest to history buffs, and Baby Boomers eager to reconnect with the psychadelic scene and amazing music of the late '60s-early '70s.
Biographie:
KATHY BUSHNELL, MSW, is a musician/songwriter and member of ASCAP. Her early ballet lessons at Joffreys, classical piano studies, and performances with a modern dance troupe gave her a creative spirit-and reverence for the arts. By the time she enrolled at New York City's School of Performing Arts, Kathy had been writing songs for several years. She was also an Anglophile and die-hard rock 'n' roll aficionado. To top things off, her maternal grandmother had been a Suffragette. So, it wasn't surprising that, at the age of nineteen, Kathy was living in London and had co-founded Emily Muff, the First Female Rock Duo in Britain.
