EARLY MORNING When I woke, you were lying in the hammock of my brain, one foot dangling close enough to kiss, I whispered, I life you; you started to smile but then ordered another Nubian Djinn. Later when you asked how hot it was, I said, Ninety-eight point six. ----------------------- MONASTIC MASS I've heard Benedictine monks and know that I would have much to learn if I were to join them; and they - if they were to join me - would have some difficulty learning the catechism of my temples, the rituals of how we eat out of each other's hands, our delicate transitions in and out of passion. And they - if they cared to be more than novices - would have to listen carefully to hear the unspoken Ite, misa est, for some of us still carry on as though we live in a sacred hour.

Biographie:
Robert Brandts geformt von dem Lehm des Lesser Floyd River, dem Ganges von Sioux County, Iowa, lehrte Englisch in Kenia, dann Kreatives Schreiben und Afrikanische Literatur an der University of California, Santa Barbara. Bob Brandts besa? eine Bar, The English Department, baute sein eigenes Haus (und baute ein neues, nachdem er das erste bei einem Waldbrand verlor), malt in ?l und Pastel und braut sein eigenes Bier. Er ver?ffentlichte die Gedichtb?nde As We Drifted und Dear 732, aus denen und aus der Anthologie ondas hier eine Auswahl pr?sentiert wird, mit deutschen Nachdichtungen von Mitch Cohen und Wolfgang Heyder. Bei Dichterlesungen hat sich Robert Brandts die B?hne mit Kenneth Rexroth, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Alan Ginsberg und Gary Snyder geteilt.
